Citroën vans share their engines and most of their parts with Peugeot, so the weak spots are well known. Older 1.6 HDi Berlingos can leak at the injector seals and need a healthy oil supply to keep the turbo alive. Some carry an additive fluid that helps the particulate filter clean itself. BlueHDi vans from 2016 use AdBlue, and faults in the tank or pump are a common cause of warnings.

- Can you MOT my Citroën van?
- Berlingos, Nemos and most Dispatches are plated at 3,000kg or under, which is a Class 4 MOT we carry out in our own bay. Most Relays are heavier and need a Class 7 test, which we do not do. Check the weight plate in the door frame, or call us with your registration and we will help.
- Why does my Berlingo say AdBlue fault?
- On BlueHDi Berlingos and Dispatches the fault is often in the AdBlue tank unit, which holds the pump, heater and level sensor, rather than low fluid. If a countdown to no restart appears, do not leave it. We read the codes, test the system and tell you exactly what has failed.
- What is the additive fluid for the DPF?
- Some Citroën diesels carry a separate tank of additive that is mixed into the fuel to help the particulate filter burn off soot. When it gets low, warnings come on and the filter starts to block. We check the level and refill it as part of servicing when it is due.
- My van smells of exhaust inside. What could it be?
- On the 1.6 HDi a common cause is a leaking injector seal, which lets exhaust gas escape on top of the engine and leaves a black tar. A leaking exhaust is another possibility. Either way it is worth checking soon, as fumes in the cab are not safe. We will find the source and quote for the fix.
- Is a Citroën van the same as a Peugeot?
- Largely, yes. The Berlingo and Partner, Dispatch and Expert, and Relay and Boxer are built together and share engines and most parts. The latest Dispatch is also the base for the Vauxhall Vivaro and Toyota Proace. That means the faults and fixes are usually the same across them.
- Why is my Relay clutch slipping?
- Relays often carry heavy loads and do a lot of stop-start work, which wears the clutch faster. Signs include the revs rising without the van speeding up, especially on hills, and a biting point that creeps higher. We check it and replace the clutch and flywheel if needed.
- How often should my Citroën van be serviced?
- Most Citroën vans need a service once a year or at a set mileage, whichever comes first. Vans working hard every day benefit from staying on top of oil changes, which protects the turbo and timing parts. Give us your registration and we will check the schedule.
- Will servicing with you affect my Citroën warranty?
- No. Block exemption rules let you use an independent garage without losing your manufacturer warranty, as long as the work follows the schedule and uses parts and fluids to the right specification. That is how we work on every van.
