Why book with us

Vauxhall Vivaro Servicing & Repairs Walsall with clear advice.

The Vivaro is a favourite with tradespeople, and we see every generation at MF Autocentre in Walsall. The first two were built alongside the Renault Trafic and share its engines and gearboxes. The current Vivaro, from 2019, is based on the same van as the Peugeot Expert and Citroën Dispatch. We also work on the smaller Combo and the larger Movano, from servicing to warning lights, brakes and clutches.

Knowing which Vivaro you have matters, because each one goes wrong in its own way. Older 2.0 CDTI vans are known for gearbox bearing failure and sticking EGR valves. The 1.6 CDTI from 2014 can wear its dual-mass flywheel and clog its particulate filter on short runs. The 2019 model uses AdBlue, and faults in that system can stop the van restarting. We use that knowledge to get to the cause quickly.

We start every job by looking properly. We read the fault codes, listen to the van and test the part we suspect before replacing anything. Then we ring you with a clear quote and tell you what needs doing now and what can wait. No work goes ahead without your say-so, and if a bigger repair is needed you can spread the cost with Payment Assist.

Matt runs the workshop and has years of hands-on work on Vauxhalls, including clutches, gearboxes, timing belts and DPF work. Sole traders and small firms bring their vans to us from Walsall, Darlaston, Bloxwich and Wednesbury. We follow the Vauxhall service schedule with the right oils and parts, so your warranty stays valid under block exemption rules and your service record stays up to date.

Most Vivaros are plated at 3,000kg or less, so we can MOT them in our own Class 4 bay, along with the Combo. Some heavier Vivaros and almost every Movano are rated above 3,000kg and need a Class 7 test, which we do not offer, but we still service and repair them. We are open weekdays and Saturday mornings. Call us on 01922 636820 to book your Vivaro in.

Common questions

Can you MOT my Vivaro?
Usually, yes. Most Vivaros are plated at 3,000kg or under, which is a Class 4 test we carry out in our own bay. A few heavier versions are rated above that and need a Class 7 MOT, which we do not do. The weight is on the plate inside the door frame, or call us with your registration and we will check.
Why is my Vivaro gearbox whining?
On older 2.0 CDTI Vivaros a growing whine or rumble often means a worn gearbox bearing. It tends to get louder over time, and if it is left the box can fail and stop selecting gears. If you catch it early the gearbox can often be repaired rather than replaced, so it is worth booking in when you first hear it.
Why does my Vivaro judder when pulling away?
The usual cause is a worn dual-mass flywheel or clutch, especially on vans that carry weight and do a lot of town driving. You may also notice a rattle at idle or the clutch biting high. We check it properly and usually replace the clutch and flywheel together to save you paying the labour twice.
What does an AdBlue countdown mean on the new Vivaro?
It means the van has found a problem with its AdBlue system and will not restart once the countdown reaches zero. It is not always low fluid. A faulty pump, sensor or heater in the tank is a common cause on these vans. We read the codes and find which part has failed.
Is the Vivaro the same as a Renault Trafic?
The first two generations, up to 2019, were built alongside the Renault Trafic and share its engines and gearboxes, so parts and faults are often the same. The current Vivaro is based on the same van as the Peugeot Expert and Citroën Dispatch instead. We work on all of them.
How often should my Vivaro be serviced?
It depends on the year and engine. Most Vivaros need a service at least once a year or at a set mileage, whichever comes first, and vans working hard every day benefit from staying on top of oil changes. Give us your registration and we will check the right schedule.
Do you work on the Vivaro-e electric van?
We can carry out the general work an electric van needs, such as brakes, tyres, suspension, steering and its MOT. We will tell you honestly if a job on the battery or high-voltage system needs to go to Vauxhall. Call us to talk through what your van needs.
Will servicing with you affect my Vauxhall warranty?
No. Under block exemption rules an independent garage can service your van without affecting the manufacturer warranty, as long as the schedule is followed and parts and fluids meet the right specification. We work that way on every van and update your service record.
