Why book with us
Mercedes Sprinter Servicing & Repairs Walsall with clear advice.
The Sprinter is the big van of choice for couriers, removals firms and builders, and we see plenty of them at MF Autocentre in Walsall. We work on the early T1N vans, the 2006 to 2018 model that is still everywhere, and the current Sprinter. We also look after the smaller Vito and Citan. Servicing, warning lights, brakes, suspension and steering are everyday work for us.
Sprinters are tough, but they have known weak spots. Injector seals can leak and leave a black tar-like mess on top of the engine. Older vans rust around the sills, arches and door bottoms, which is a common MOT problem. Newer Euro 6 vans use AdBlue, and faulty NOx sensors or heaters can bring up a countdown to no restart. Vans that only do local drops also clog their particulate filter.
Every job starts with a proper look. We read the fault codes, check the obvious things and test the part we suspect before we replace anything. Then we ring you with a clear quote and tell you what is urgent and what can wait. No work goes ahead until you have said yes, and we keep you posted while the van is with us.
A Sprinter off the road costs you jobs, so we keep things straightforward. Matt has years of hands-on work on Mercedes vehicles, including DPF, turbo and timing work. Drivers bring their vans to us from Walsall, Aldridge, Bloxwich and Wednesbury, and we are open on Saturday mornings as well as weekdays. We service to the Mercedes schedule with the right oils and parts, so your warranty stays valid.
Most Sprinters are plated at 3,500kg, which means they need a Class 7 MOT. We only test Class 4, so we cannot MOT those vans, but we can service them, fix MOT failures and get them ready for the test. Vitos, Citans and the lighter Sprinters up to 3,000kg can be tested in our own bay. To book your Sprinter in or talk through a fault, call us on 01922 636820.

Common questions
- Can you MOT my Sprinter?
- Only if it is plated at 3,000kg or less, which is a Class 4 test. Most Sprinters are 3,500kg and need a Class 7 MOT, which we cannot carry out. We can still service the van, repair any faults and get it ready for its test elsewhere. Check the weight plate inside the door frame, or call us and we will help.
- How often should a Sprinter be serviced?
- Newer Sprinters use a service reminder that works out when the van is due from how it is driven, while older ones run on time and mileage. A van working every day should be seen at least once a year. Tell us your registration and we will look up the right schedule.
- Why is there black gunk on top of my Sprinter engine?
- That is usually a leaking injector seal. Exhaust gas escapes past the seal and cooks the oil and soot into a black tar. You may also hear a ticking or chuffing noise and smell fumes in the cab. Left alone, the injector can seize in the head, which makes the job much bigger, so it is worth sorting early.
- What should I do about an AdBlue countdown?
- Do not ignore it. Once the countdown reaches zero the van will not restart. Topping up the AdBlue only helps if the tank is genuinely low. On many Sprinters the cause is a faulty NOx sensor, heater or pump. We read the fault codes and test the system so we replace the right part first time.
- My Sprinter has rust on the sills. Will it fail its MOT?
- It can. Corrosion near the sills, chassis, suspension mounts or seat belt mounts can be a fail if it weakens the structure. Surface rust on a panel usually is not. We look at it, tell you honestly how bad it is and quote for welding if it needs it.
- Why does my Sprinter go into limp mode?
- Limp mode protects the engine when the computer sees a problem. On Sprinters it is often linked to the DPF, a boost leak, the EGR system or an AdBlue fault. We read the codes, test the system and tell you what has caused it before you spend anything.
- Do you work on the Vito and Citan as well?
- Yes. We service and repair the Vito and the smaller Citan as well as the Sprinter. Both are usually under 3,000kg, so we can MOT them in our own Class 4 bay. The Vito shares some engines and electronics with the Sprinter, so the same fault finding applies.
- Will servicing with you affect my Mercedes warranty?
- No. Block exemption rules let you use an independent garage without losing the manufacturer warranty, as long as the service follows the Mercedes schedule and uses the right parts and fluids. We work that way on every van and update your service record.
