Why Is My Car Pulling to One Side? Tracking, Brakes, and Tyres

Three common causes

When a car pulls to one side, it is usually a tyre pressure problem, a brake issue, or a tracking (alignment) problem. Each has a different fix.

Tyre pressure imbalance

If one tyre is significantly lower in pressure than the others, the car will pull towards that side. Check your tyre pressures — the correct pressures are on a label inside the driver door frame or in your handbook.

If one tyre is low, inflate it to the correct pressure. If it keeps losing pressure, you may have a slow leak or a puncture. We can inspect and advise.

Brake drag on one side

A sticky caliper or worn pad on one side can cause pulling when you brake. If pulling is worse when braking, this is the likely cause. We can inspect the brake pads and callipers and free up any sticking components.

Wheel tracking (alignment)

If your car pulls straight and you just had brakes done or your tyres replaced, tracking may have been affected. Worn suspension components can also knock tracking out, causing the car to pull and tyres to wear unevenly.
